Dance

The movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a given space, for the purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement itself.

About Movement

Dance has always been an integral part of my life and personal well-being. It gave me purpose and helped me find a way to express myself in a safe and secure environment. Through years of practice and dedication, I learned what it was to perform, and how the stage gave me a way to express my passion and escape reality. I knew dance would be a defining attribute of my life, but I never knew how my passion for dance would evolve over time. Through years of teaching dance and developing my own school based dance program, I began to unpack each piece that would come together and make me whole.

To me, dance is a place to express emotions, to understand that it is acceptable to feel loss, to face challenges and to find happiness. Dance is unpredictable, a powerful impulse of energy - a chance to delight spectators who feel no wish to dance themselves. It is a connection of ideas and deep expression between the people and the stories told through movement. Dance is an art captured in mere moments, that draws its dancers and spectators to explore the kinesthesia of the body through rhythm and patterns as the conviction unfolds before them.

In the early months of 2022, I found myself lost, unsure of where I wanted my life to turn. I found myself asking who I was, what I was meant to do, and trying to find my purpose. The only thing I was certain of, was dance. Dance was a tool I relied on throughout my life to help me heal and grieve the many losses I faced. It gave me a sense of security and purpose, a place to build healthy relationships, as I grew and shared my own experiences. Through my years of teaching, I saw the gravity that movement and dance shared to help my students communicate their own experiences and stories. I knew my role as a teacher was to be a mentor and guide, and to help them grow. It was at this moment, I knew I had to follow my heart; to follow my passion. It was time to move and make a difference. It was time to open my own studio.
