So what is dance?

  • Jazz

    An upbeat and energetic style, jazz dance pairs animated expressions with sharp, yet fluid motions that are matched to rhythm and beats. Jazz dancers own their own style through power, technique and confidence.

  • Tap

    A style of dance in which a rhythm is formed by the noise of the dancer's shoes on the floor to the counts and beats of the music. Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation.

  • Ballet

    A classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement.

  • Hip-Hop

    Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture.

  • Lyrical

    Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz techniques, performed to music with lyrical and deep emotional connections. This style of dance inspires expression through movement that choreographers feel from the lyrics of the songs.

  • Modern

    Modern dance is a dance style that focuses on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. Modern dancers reject the limitations of classical ballet and favour movements derived from the expression of their inner feelings.

  • Musical Theatre

    A style that brings together acting, singing and dancing to create a highly entertaining and energetic performance. You may call this genre a triple threat and a great place for aspiring actors to grow and develop their skills.

  • Acro

    Acro dance is a style that combines the techniques of classical dance with acrobatic movements. This form of dance is very athletic and has unique choreography to incorporate gymnastic-like elements into dance.

  • Contemporary

    Contemporary dance combines the strong but controlled legwork of Ballet, with elements of Modern Dance, focusing on the contract and release of the body, and the unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction. It also employs floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristics of Modern dance.

Mini Movers (Ages 2-5)

  • Circus Minis ( Ages 2-3)

    This non-parented class runs for 4 months, Starting September 16th, and ending December 16th. Circus Minis is a fun and interactive class designed to build coordination, focusing on the fundamental skills that children need to grow and develop, such as gross motor skills, hand, eye, foot coordination, visual tracking, balance and fine motor skills. Through using props and skill building tools, playing games, songs and story telling, this circus theme class will keep your little one engaged, while honing their skills to keep them on track to building a strong healthy body. As this is a four month program, there is no performance and no costume fee. Parents will be invited on the last day to watch and enjoy their in class progress!

  • Creative Movement (Ages 2-3)

    Creative movement is a fun-filled introduction to the world of dance. Each class is designed to stimulate the child in a whole body approach to learning. While utilizing ballet based vocabulary, many forms of movement and varieties of dance are explored. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

  • Pre-Kinder Hip Hop (3-4)

    As an introduction to dance, this class is a fun environment where children learn rhythm, musicality, and performance skills through the art of hip-hop. The class features kid-friendly music and lots of energy! Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

  • Mini Tumblers (3-4)

    An excellent introduction to the world of acrodance! Learning the basics of dance and acro dance and how to combine the 2, this class will get the little ones excited about various kinds of movement.

  • Pre-Kinder Tap/Ballet Combo (Ages 3-5)

    Students will learn basic ballet and tap vocabulary and class structure. There will be an emphasis on correct posture and positioning. Students will focus on developing ballet and tap technique and reinforce their physical strength, flexibility, and musicality. Individual expression through dance is encouraged at this level. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

  • Pre-Kinder Ballet/Jazz Combo (Ages 3-5)

    Students will learn basic ballet and jazz vocabulary and class structure. There will be an emphasis on correct posture and positioning. Students will focus on developing ballet and jazz technique and reinforce their physical strength, flexibility, and musicality. Individual expression through dance is encouraged at this level. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

  • Hip Hop Minis (Ages 2-3)

    As an introduction to dance, this class is a fun environment where children learn rhythm, musicality, and performance skills inspired by hip-hop dance. The class features kid-friendly music and lots of energy! Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

  • World of Disney (Ages 3-5)

    In this class, students will get an introduction to the fundamentals in ballet and jazz focusing on basic technique and posture while exploring the Magic of Disney! The Disney themed class will give students the same opportunity to express their creativity through movement. Please note there is a 20.00 costume fee affiliated with this class.

    This class will perform at the Christmas Showcase or year end recital!

Skill Development & Training Classes

  • Kinder Acro

    As an introduction to tumbling, this class will introduce little dancers to acrobatics, skills and techniques. They will learn how to harness their flexibility and explore safe techniques to help them develop as a dancer. Dancers in this group will learn a routine to perform at year end recital.

  • Beginner/Novice Acro Skills

    Encourages coordination, spatial awareness, and fine and gross motor skills. Students will increase their strength and flexibility and learn a variety of tumbling and gymnastics skills. Dancers will also learn an acro dance routine to perform in festival to show off their new skills.

  • Conditioning & Flexibility for Dance

    This class will focus on strength, stamina, flexibility and technique. You will learn all the tips and tricks to help develop and strengthen your skills as a dancer.

  • Conditioning for Pointe

    this class will incorporate stregthening the dancers overall ballet technique, focusing specifically on those required for pointe work. The purpose of this calss is to learn asnd grow as dancers, with possiblity of beiginnng pointe work - but this will depend on the strength, skills and dedication demonstarted

  • Intermediate/Senior Ballet Tech

    Ballet is the foundation of all forms and will help to maximize technique. Learn to move with confindence, precision and develpoe accurate posture and alignment. This class will help dancers to build poise, grace and strength. Classes will consist of barre, center practice, across the floor and various combinations. This is a non-performance technique class

Ballet

  • Primary Ballet (Ages 5-6)

    Introduce your little dancer to the beautiful art of ballet! This class will enhance your child's coordination, balance and flexibility with the teaching of basic ballet positions, steps, and terminology through standing barre work and simple center floor exercises. Your child will also enjoy simple and fun exercises in creative dance and music exploration. Additionally, your child will have the opportunity to participate in dance festivals in the spring season, along with year end recital.

  • Beginner Ballet (Ages 7-9)

    This beginner level class is designed to develop awareness of alignment and basic ballet vocabulary and technique. Class will include basic barre exercises, as well as center work, as well as a choreographed routine. Your dancer will have a wonderful time learning the secrets behind becoming prima ballerina! Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Junior Ballet (Ages 10-12)

    Come enjoy the excitement and beauty of classical style and stories of character ballet! This class will focus on ballet terminology and technique through the execution of barre work, center, and across the floor exercises. Your child will have a clear understanding of body alignment, movement quality, carriage of upper body, and flexibility. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Intermediate Ballet (Ages 13-14)

    As an intermediate class, dancers will require previous ballet training. We will focus on classical ballet technique through a professional class progression. Barre work, center and across the floor exercises are designed to better your technique, as well as performance quality and confidence. With quality and knowledgeable teaching, and an encouraging environment, these classes will be a perfect fit for those who aspire to improve their dancing! Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Senior Ballet (Ages 15-18)

    As an advanced level, extensive experience and knowledge are required. We will focus on classical ballet technique through a professional class progression. Barre work, center and across the floor exercises are designed to better student technique, as well as performance quality and confidence. With quality and knowledgeable teaching, and a positive learning environment, these classes will be a perfect fit for those who strive to improve their skill, and artistry! Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Pre-Primary Jazz/Ballet Combo

    Students will learn basic ballet and jazz vocabulary and class structure. There will be an emphasis on correct posture and positioning. Students will focus on developing ballet and jazz technique and reinforce their physical strength, flexibility, and musicality. Individual expression through dance is encouraged at this level. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a routine to perform in the year end recital.

Ukrainian Dance

  • Beginner Ukrainian Dance (7-9)

    Beginner Ukrainian dance your child will learn basic Ukrainian steps and terminology as well as some ballet steps focusing on ballet positions and Ukrainian travelling steps. Students will learn one full dance to compete/perform and have knowledge of multiple Ukrainian steps from many different regions.

  • Junior Ukrainian Dance (Ages 10-13)

    Junior Ukrainian dance will be learning simple words/dance terminology as well as basic ballet steps focusing on a full ballet bar. We will do Ukrainian spins for the ladies and jumps for the guys. They will learn combos from multiple different regions. They will complete at least 1, maybe 2 dances to compete/perform.

Contemporary & Modern

  • Contemporary XL Group (Ages 9+)

    For dancers wanting to be a part of a line dance (XL group), and will receive a discounted rate when enrolled in this class (must be enrolled in jazz or lyrical). This class is emerging of multiple styles and techniques, contemporary dance is an emotionally filled style that is driven by lyrics and instrumental music. It consists of abstract movements, improvisation, body contractions and so much more. It tells a story that connects to the audience members emotionally and physically.

  • Modern (Ages 9+)

    As an introduction to modern dance, this class is an expressive form of dance based on the philosophies of Graham, Horton, Hawkins, Brown, and Limon. Classes are designed to encourage a strong foundation in this dance form with an emphasis on individual expression. Dancers will focus on contractions, spirals, basic floor work, and elemental concepts of space, time and force. They will also build core strength and flexibility in a fun and encouraging environment. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

Musical Theatre

  • Kinder Musical Theatre (Ages 5-6)

    With a foundation of jazz technique, this class will introduce dancers to broadway style performing, meshing together singing, acting and dancing. This high energy class is a great place for beginners to explore theatrical performances, while developing basic dance techniques, rhythm and coordination. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Beginner/Junior Musical Theatre (Ages 7-12)

    With a foundation of jazz technique, this class will introduce dancers to broadway style performing, meshing together singing, acting and dancing. This high energy class is a great place for beginners to explore theatrical performances, while developing basic dance techniques, rhythm and coordination. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Intermediate Musical Theatre (Ages 13-15)

    Building off of a foundation of jazz technique, this class continues the development of broadway style performing, meshing together singing, acting and dancing. Dancers will learn a high energy routine, while continuing to hone their performance skills and charisma on stage. They will learn how to become broadway performers and what it means to "go big or go home".

Hip Hop

  • Kinder Hip Hop (Ages 5-6)

    As an introduction to performance, your little one will learn to move and groove to steal the show. Designed to introduce dancers to rhythm and beat, students will learn to move across the space, as they jump, stomp, slide and groove to kid-friendly music. They will focus on patterns, coordination and repetition, as they come together to create their own routine. Additionally, your child will have the opportunity to participate in dance festivals in the spring season, along with year end recital.

  • Beginner Hip Hop (Ages 7-9)

    This fast and upbeat class will have your child jumping and grooving to the latest hits and hip hop jams. Students will begin building skills focused on hip-hop styles, working on coordination, patterns and repetition. Students will push themselves creatively, gain more confidence and learn to perform. This is a beginner class. Students will learn a choreographed routine and participate in dance festivals and a year-end recital.

  • ALL BOYS Hip Hop (Ages 8-12)

    This ALL boys class offers a fast and upbeat class that will have your child jumping and grooving to the latest hits and hip hop jams. Students will begin building skills focused on hip-hop styles, working on coordination, patterns and repetition. Students will push themselves creatively, gain more confidence and learn to perform. This is a beginner class. Students will learn a choreographed routine and participate in dance festivals and a year-end recital.

  • Junior Hip Hop (Ages 10-12)

    Building off of the beginner class, students will continue to brush up on their hip-hop skills, while working with various speeds and rhythm. They will continue to work on more complex patterns and combinations of choreography, further enhancing their coordination. Students will move to the latest jams, along with the 80's, 90's and 00's. Students will learn a choreographed routine and perform at dance festivals and a year-end recital. Previous hip-hop experience is valuable, but not necessary.

  • Intermediate Hip Hop (Ages 13-15)

    Advancing in skill and ability, this class requires previous hip-hop experience or dancers must complete an evaluation to ensure proper placement. In this class, Hip-Hop dancers will focus more on funky, sharp, isolated movements. Choreography is offered in this class, and students will perform in festival, as well as at a year-end recital.

  • Senior Hip Hop (Ages 15-18)

    Students must have completed intermediate hip-hop or have adequate hip-hop training to enter this level. Dancers continue to sharpen their hip-hop skills and abilities, working on isolations, fluidity, smooth transitions, etc. Dancers will compete in festivals and perform at the year-end recital.

Jazz

  • Primary (Ages 5-6)

    Primary Jazz provides exposure to Jazz as a discipline and basic steps are learned, such as turns, kicks, and leap steps along with popular simple rhythm techniques and fun expression. Dancers will learn a choreographed routine, participate in dance festival and perform at year-end recital. No previous dance experience required.

  • Beginner Jazz (Ages 7-8)

    Jazz is a fun, high-energy class, which incorporates technique, strength, stretch and stylized choreography to upbeat music. As dancers progress, classes also focus on a variety of leaps, turns and combinations. This class will begin at an introductory level and will progress based on the average skill level of the dancers. Dancers will have an opportunity to perform a choreographed dance at festival and our year-end recital demonstrating what they have learned.

  • Junior Jazz (Ages 10-12)

    Building off of skills learned in beginner, students will continue to focus on technique, strength, stretch and stylized choreography to upbeat music. As dancers progress, classes also focus on a variety of leaps, turns and combinations. This class will begin at an introductory level and will progress based on the average skill level of the dancers. Dancers will have an opportunity to perform a choreographed dance at festival and our year-end recital demonstrating what they have learned. Previous dance experience is desirable.

  • Intermediate 1 Jazz (Ages 13-15)

    Previous ballet or jazz training is required. Students will continue their jazz dance progression, building their technique repertoire and skills. Dancers will continue to master leaps and turns, as well as focus on the benefits to stretching and strength training. Jazz technique class is encouraged, but not necessary. Dancers will partake in festival competitions and a year-end recital.

  • Intermediate 2 Jazz (Ages 14-16)

    Previous ballet or jazz training is required. Students will continue their jazz dance progression, building their technique repertoire and skills. Dancers will continue to master leaps and turns, as well as focus on the benefits to stretching and strength training. Jazz technique class is encouraged, but not necessary. Dancers will partake in festival competitions and a year-end recital.

Lyrical

  • Kinder Lyrical (Ages 5-6)

    In this class, young dancers will be introduced to lyrical, a style that blends ballet and jazz technique, while being emotionally driven by the music and lyrics. Dancers are strongly encouraged to also be enrolled in jazz and/or ballet, as lyrical is a very technical based class.

  • Beginner Lyrical (Ages 7-9)

    In this class, students will be introduced to a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression and emotional connections through movement. Lyrical dance is inspired by the lyrics of a piece of music, meant to connect the dancer and the audience musically and physically. Dancers are highly recommended to train in either ballet, jazz or both in order to build a stronger foundation of dance skills and technique. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Junior Lyrical (Ages 10-12)

    Dancers are required to have experience in jazz and/or ballet, or must be currently registered in jazz and/or ballet classes to attend this class. Lyrical dance is a fusion between jazz and ballet, meant to inspire dancers and the audience, as they move fluidly throughout the stage, connecting emotionally and physically to the emotions and lyrics of the music. Dancers will participate in competitive festivals and a year end recital.

  • Intermediate 1 Lyrical (Ages 13-15)

    Dancers must have a foundation in ballet and jazz dance, as well as previous experience in lyrical dance. Dancers who do not have previous lyrical training, or strong dance background are encouraged to enroll in the teen lyrical/jazz class. In this class, dancers will be introduced to contemporary dance, a style similar to lyrical, that pulls in elements of modern dance, providing more versatility in movement, incorporating more floor work, improvisation, and gravity to pull dancers towards the floor.

  • Intermediate 2 Lyrical (Ages 14-16)

    Dancers must have a foundation in ballet and jazz dance, as well as previous experience in lyrical dance. Dancers who do not have previous lyrical training, or strong dance background are encouraged to enroll in the teen lyrical/jazz class. In this class, dancers will be introduced to contemporary dance, a style similar to lyrical, that pulls in elements of modern dance, providing more versatility in movement, incorporating more floor work, improvisation, and gravity to pull dancers towards the floor.

  • Senior Lyrical (Ages 16-18)

    Dancers must have a foundation in ballet and jazz dance, as well as previous experience in lyrical/contemporary dance. Dancers will hone their skills in lyrical/contemporary, while continuing to strengthen technique and development, while furthering their expressions through movement and use of the face to tell a story and share an emotion with the audience. Dancers must be experienced in jazz, ballet and lyrical to enroll in this class.

Tap

  • Primary Tap (Ages 5-6)

    For the beginner dancer, this is a great class to introduce students to rhythm and combinations of movement. Introducing dancers to counting, teachers will help dancers to focus on building better coordination and balance. This is a great class for both boys and girls. Dancers will perform in festival and year-end recital.

  • Beginner Tap (Ages 7-9)

    Students will learn the basics of Tap dancing as the instructor introduces basic Tap terminology, steps and counting. This class is intended for learning rhythm, balance, and coordination; as well as learning simple, age appropriate dance combinations. This fun-filled class is great for both boys and girls. Dancers will perform in festival and year-end recital.

  • Junior Tap (Ages 9-12)

    Class will begin with a set warm up focused on technique, clarity of sound, musicality, and strengthening the mind and body. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, tap turns, and choreography using different rhythms supported by a wide range of music. Dancers will learn a choreographed routine to perform in festivals and year-end recital.

  • Intermediate tap (Ages 13-16)

    Designed for experienced tap dancers, students will continue to develop their tap skills, understand rhythm and sounds, through combinations and movement. Dancers must have previous tap training or complete a tap assessment. Dancers will learn a choreographed routine to perform in festivals and year-end recital.

Acro

  • Kinder Acro (Ages 5-6)

    As an introduction to tumbling, this class will introduce little dancers to acrobatics, skills and techniques. They will learn how to harness their flexibility and explore safe techniques to help them develop as a dancer. Dancers in this group will learn a routine to perform at year end recital.

Dance Fusion

  • MDS Dance Fusion

    Designed as an after school program, Dance Fusion runs two days a week, and is an introduction to the performing arts. Students will be introduced to various dance styles, focusing primarily on jazz, as well as an intro to acrobatics, musical theatre, drama games and professional theatre make-up. Dancers will learn two different routines to compete in festival and to perform at year-end recital, tailored to the interests of the students. As the studio is located next to a local daycare, students can easily access the programming via school transportation, and will be greeted by one of our studio instructors. Take advantage of this convenient program that immerses your young dancer in the performing arts!

  • Kinder Dance Fusion

    Dance Fusion is an introduction to the performing arts. Students will be introduced to various dance styles, focusing primarily on jazz, as well as an intro to acrobatics, musical theatre, drama games and professional theatre make-up. Dancers will learn different routines to compete in festival and to perform at year-end recital, tailored to the interests of the students.

Adult Classes

  • Adult Musical Theatre

    In this class, you will release your inner performer, let loose, and have fun! With a jazz dance foundation, this class will provide a theatrical element, that includes acting, signing and lip synching. Release your inner diva, and join this beginner level class!

  • Adult Tap

    Designed for beginner-intermediate toppers, adult tap is a great place to get moving , develop rhythm and skill. Dancers will learn and review tap technique, while working on choreography and a routine to perform in festival. Own the stage and enjoy the fun atmosphere!

  • Adult Hip Hop

    Beginner-intermediate. A fun, high energy class, where dancers will have an opportunity to learn up-beat movements, and work on coordination. Dancers will learn combinations and choreography to perform in festival and year-end recital.

  • Adult Jazz

    Designed to be a beginner-intermediate class, this class will allow experienced and non-experienced Jazz dancers to hit the stage in an upbeat -driven style of dance, while learning and working on basic technique, using the body to tell a story, and finding emotion through performance. It's never too late to find your inner dancer and release it on the stage!

  • Adult Lyrical/Contemporary

    Designed to be a beginner-intermediate class, this class will allow experienced and non-experienced lyrical dancers to hit the stage in a emotionally-driven style of dance, while learning and working on basic technique, using the body to tell a story, and finding emotion through performance. It's never too late to find your inner dancer and release it on the stage!
